Cito Gaston doubled home two runs with two out in the ninth inning to bring the Padres a 2-1 victory over the Expos. Although held to three hits by Clay Kirby, the Expos led by an unearned run going into the ninth.

Bob Barton started the stanza with a single, but Don Mason, running for him, was thrown out trying to steal second. Angel Bravo batted for Kirby and walked. Larry Stahl singled, Bravo stopping at second. Dave Campbell then forced Stahl, leaving the situation up to Gaston, who came through with his winning double. [The Sporting News]
