Bill Hands doled out three singles, retired the last 23 batters in succession and pitched the Cubs to a 3-1 victory over the Braves. All three of the Braves' hits came in the second inning when their run scored as Earl Williams grounded into a double play.

The Cubs loaded the bases on walks to Don Kessinger and Billy Wiliams around a single by Glenn Beckert in the first and scored two runs on a single by Joe Pepitone. Singles by Ron Santo, Johnny Callison and Chris Cannizzaro added the final run in the fourth. [The Sporting News]
