. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The Cardinals' first three hits off Jim Merritt were homers and that was enough to assure a 6-1 victory over the Reds. Jose Cardenal and Ted Sizemore connected for solo swats in the second and third innings, respectively, and Jim Beauchamp homered after a walk to Cardenal in the fourth.

The defeat was the eighth straight for Merritt. Reggie Cleveland held the Reds to three hits, including a homer by Lee May, as the Cardinals snapped their seven-game losing streak. [The Sporting News]
