The Royals' failures to get a forceout at the plate with the bases loaded in the eighth inning resulted in their defeat by the Yankees, 3-2. Tom Burgmeier, in relief of Bruce Dal Canton, gave up two singles and a walk to load the bases liefore yielding the mound to Ted Abernathy. Felipe Alou then grounded to Rich Severson, but the shortstop's throw home failed to force Jerry Kenney, who scored the run that broke the 2-2 tie. [The Sporting News]
