In a dramatic comeback, after the White Sox scored three runs in the 11th inning, the Twins rallied for four runs in their half to gain a 7-6 victory. A double by Mike Andrews and triple by Lee Richard helped the White Sox take their lead.

Steve Braun started the Twins' comeback with a double, Cesar Tovar walked and Harmon Killebrew singled to load the bases. Tony Oliva drove in two runs with a single. After a safe bunt by Leo Cardenas reloaded the sacks, Rich Reese hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score and George Mitterwald singled for his fourth hit of the game to drive in the winning run.
