Sam McDowell's six-game winning streak was snapped by the Tigers, who defeated the Indians, 4-3. McDowell was losing, 3-0, when removed for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning and the Tigers added what proved to be the deciding run off Phil Hennigan in the eighth when Norm Cash tripled and Bill Freehan doubled for his third hit of the game.
