. . . where the 1970s live forever!
A single by Don Kessinger in the 10th inning for his sixth straight hit led to the run that gave the Cubs a 7-6 victory over the Cardinals. Kessinger was the first Cubs' player with six hits in a game since Frank Demaree turned the trick July 5, 1937.

After Kessinger reached base, Glenn Beckert sacrificed, Billy Williams was passed intentionally and Ron Santo singled to drive in the winning run. The Cards tied a major league record by using five pitchers in one inning in the eighth when the Cubs tied the game at 5-5 on a double by Kessinger and single by Santo. [The Sporting News]
