A triple by pinch-hitter Gene Clines and single by Dave Cash in the 11th inning gave the Pirates a 9-8 victory over the Expos in a slugfest marked by six homers. Willie Stargell and Al Oliver each connected with a man on base to account for the Pirates' first four runs.

John Bateman hit a grand slam for the Expos in the seventh and Bob Bailey made it 8-4 with a two-run smash in the ninth. The Pirates rallied to tie the score in their half.
