After falling behind, 4-0, Mike Cuellar was able to gain his ninth straight victory when the Orioles rallied to defeat the Yankees, 6-4. Horace Clarke and Bobby Murcer homered for the Yanks.

The Orioles scored three runs in the third inning, one of them unearned on an error by Thurman Munson, who dropped the ball in a collision at the plate with Andy Etchebarren and was forced to leave the game. Ron Woods muffed a fly by Paul Blair in the fifth, opening the gates for the Orioles to win the game with three more unearned runs. [The Sporting News]
