Saved from defeat when Tony Oliva homered in the ninth inning, the Twins went on to edge the White Sox, 2-1, on a bases-loaded single by George Mitterwald in the 10th. Rod Carew singled to pave the way for the winning run.

Harmon Killebrew popped up and Oliva forced Carew, but Mike Andrews threw wildly, trying for a double play, and Oliva reached second. An intentional pass to Leo Cardenas and another walk to Rich Reese then loaded the bases for Mitterwald's single, which extended the Twins' winning streak to six games. [The Sporting News]
