Although Vida Blue gave up seven hits, more than in any of his previous victories, the Athletics' sensational lefthander struck out 13 and and beat the Twins, 3-2. The triumph was the fifth in succession for Blue and his 15th of the season. The Twins scored their runs in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. Rich Reese tripled and counted on a single by Ray Corbin. After forcing Corbin, Cesar Tovar stole second and scored on a single by Harmon Killebrew.
