Led by Dave Nelson and Don Mincher, who had three hits apiece, the Senators won the first game of a doubleheader, 8-6, but the Orioles came back to gain a 2-0 victory in the second game behind the pitching of Grant Jackson and Tom Dukes. Mike Cuellar, seeking to extend his nine-game winning streak, started the opener for the Orioles and was chased in the fourth inning when the Senators scored three runs to tie the game at 4-4. Two counted on a homer by Mincher. The Senators then pulled out to an 8-4 lead, but had to use four pitchers in the ninth to put down an Orioles' rally.
