An eight-run explosion in the second inning propelled the White Sox to an 11-6 victory over the Royals. Carlos May was hit by a pitch, Tom Egan walked, Luis Alvarado beat out a bunt and Tom Bradley was safe on an error as the first run scored.

That sparked the White Sox, who followed with a single by Walt Williams, double by Jay Johnstone and single by Rich McKinney for five more runs before Bill Melton capped the outburst with a homer to score behind McKinney.
