Joe Lahoud, playing in place of Carl Yastrzemski, who was out of action for the first time this season, broke a 1-1 tie with a homer in the seventh inning to give the Red Sox a 2-1 victory over the Indians in a duel between Ray Culp and Sam McDowell.

Culp, who pitched a five-hitter, gave up the Indians' run in the second on a double by Kurt Bevacqua and single by McDowell. The Red Sox also were held to five hits by McDowell, who yielded the first run on a walk to Luis Aparicio and triple by Billy Conigliaro in the sixth. [The Sporting News]
