The Braves came from behind to win the first game of a twi-night doubleheader, 8-6, and then scored 10 runs in the first two innings of the second game to beat the Reds again, 10-3. The Braves, after losing the lead and falling behind in the lidlifter, tied the score at 6-6 in the seventh inning on run-scoring doubles by Earl Williams and Hal King. Luckless Jim Merritt, pitching in relief for the Reds, then drew his 10th straight defeat when the Braves scored twice in the eighth on a single by Marty Perez, double by Ralph Garr and single by Oscar Brown.

Williams batted in four of the Braves' runs in the nightcap, including three with a homer in the first inning. Tony Perez had four hits for the Reds and homered in succession with Tommy Helms in the second inning. Johnny Bench also had a homer for the Reds' last run. [The Sporting News]
