Felipe Alou, Ron Blomberg and Jake Gibbs batted in eight runs among them as the Yankees trounced the Senators, 12-2. Alou accounted for four RBIs with a triple and single. Blomberg and Gibbs each homered with a man on base.

Blomberg's drive in the fourth inning was the first of the rookie outfielder's major league career. Ron Swoboda made his first appearance in a Yankees' uniform after being obtained from the Expos. [The Sporting News]
