Luis Aparicio and Gary Peters shared honors in the day game and Sonny Siebert was the standout in the night game as the Red Sox defeated the Orioles, 3-2 and 10-2. Aparicio had four hits and a walk in a perfect day at the plate in the sunshine contest and drove in the winning run in the 10th inning. After the veteran shortstop scored a run in the seventh and batted in another in the eighth, Peters served up what he said was his only bad pitch of the game -- a hanging slider that Boog Powell smashed for a homer with a man on base to tie the score in the ninth. Billy Conigliaro singled in the 10th and, with one out, Peters sacrificed. The Orioles then walked Joe Lahoud intentionally to bring up Aparicio, who smashed a line drive that Frank Robinson misjudged in right field, the ball going over his head for a single, scoring Conigliaro.

In the night game, Siebert not only pitched a six-hitter but knocked in five runs with a homer, double and grounder. [The Sporting News]
