Bill Mazeroski, who started at second base for the first time since May 14, rapped four hits including a homer, to lead the Pirates to an 11-9 victory over the Phillies. Bob Robertson whacked a pair of homers. Mazeroski's round-tripper with a man on base in the fourth inning broke a 4-4 tie. The Pirates then increased their lead to 11-4 before the Phillies rallied for five runs in the ninth inning.

Dock Ellis, who emerged with his 12th victory, was lifted after loading the bases on two hits and a walk. Before Giusti ended the inning, Denny Doyle drove in two runs with a single and Tim McCarver batted in three with a homer. [The Sporting News]
