The Red Sox took a quick lead on a two-run double by Reggie Smith in the first inning and went on to defeat the Orioles, 3-1. Doug Griffin singled, Luis Aparicio doubled him to third and both then scored on Smith's two-bagger. The other Red Sox run in the fourth counted on a walk and singles by Ray Culp and Griffin.
