Blue Moon Odom and Bill Butler, both of whom had undergone elbow surgery during the winter, were winning pitchers when the Athletics and the Royals split a doubleheader. Odom, turning in his first complete game of the season, pitched the Athletics to a 3-0 victory in the opener.

Butler, making his first start since his recall from Omaha, received credit for a 6-3 decision in the nightcap as the Royals ended their seven-game losing streak. Butler was hit by a line drive and left the mound after seven innings. Ted Abernathy finished the job for the southpaw. [The Sporting News]
