Roberto Clemente homered in the eighth inning for the 1,200th RBI of his career to give the Pirates a 10-9 victory in a split of a doubleheader with the Phillies, who won first game, 8-4. Willie Stargell hit his 28th homer to help the Pirates take a 4-3 lead in the lidlifter before the Phillies exploded for four runs in the seventh. Roger Freed led off with a homer to tie the score. After two walks, Denny Doyle doubled to drive in the leading tally and Willie Montanez doubled to add two more runs.
