Sunday June 27, 1971
. . . where the 1970s live forever!
The Senators defeated the Yankees, 2-1 and 8-0, in their first sweep of a doubleheader since July 5, 1970, when the Yankees also were the victims. Stan Bahnsen, who had won six straight games for the Yankees, was beat in the lidlifter when Tim Cullen singled and Del Unser homered in the third inning. The Senators called on four pitchers. Jerry Janeski, who started, was lifted after walking the first two batters, and Ron Blomberg then singled off Joe Grzenda to provide the Yankees' run.

Jim Shellenback hurled the route for the Senators in the nightcap, allowing six hits, and also helped himself at bat with two singles, driving in one run and scoring two. [The Sporting News]
