Lee May smashed three hits, including a homer, in each game of a twi-night doubleheader to lead the Reds to 4-3 and 5-4 victories over the Expos. In addition to the homer by May in the fifth inning of the first game, the Reds also had one by George Foster, who connected in the sixth to provide what proved to be the deciding run. In the second game, May singled in the ninth and gave way to Buddy Bradford, who stole second and continued to third on a wild throw by John Boccabella. Johnny Bench then singled for his fourth hit of the game to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News] |
