The Indians broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the ninth inning to win the first game of a doubleheader, 3-0, and then beat the Yankees again in the second game, 5-2. Fritz Peterson, pitching the opener for the Yankees, yielded only four hits until the ninth when the Indians erupted for their runs on three singles, two outfield errors and a pair of sacrifice flies. Ray Lamb was the winner with the aid of Steve Mingori.

In the nightcap, the Indians snapped a 2-2 tie in the eighth inning with two runs on singles by Ray Fosse, Frank Baker, Kurt Bevacqua and Jack Heidemann. [The Sporting News]
