Rick Wise, making his first start since pitching a no-hitter against the Reds June 23, was rapped for 11 hits by the Mets, who defeated the Phillies, 3-1. Tommie Agee collected four hits, including a homer for the Mets' first run in the sixth inning to tie the score at 1-1.

Agee opened the eighth with a single and took third on a single by Bud Harrelson. After Agee was caught in a rundown on a grounder by Cleon Jones, Ed Kranepool was retired. The Phillies then decided to pass Art Shamsky intentionally, loading the bases, and the move backfired when Ken Boswell singled to drive in two runs. [The Sporting News]
