Grant Jackson homered in the eighth inning for his first A. L. hit and won his own game as the Orioles notched a 4-3 victory in the nightcap of a twi-night doubleheader after losing the opener to the Indians, 5-4.

The Indians kayoed Mike Cuellar in the seventh inning of the first game when Graig Nettles hit a two-run homer to tie the score at 4-4. With Pete Richert on the mound for the Orioles in the ninth, Chuck Hinton walked and gave way to Fred Stanley. When Vada Pinson bunted, Richert threw wildly on an attempted forceout, allowing Stanley to reach third and Pinson second. Nettles was passed intentionally. Tom Dukes relieved and, on his first pitch, Roy Foster hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
