Successive four-run outbursts in the sixth and seventh innings enabled the Cubs to defeat the Dodgers, 10-5. In the sixth, after one run scored on doubles by Hector Torres and Billy Williams, Ron Santo walked and Joe Pepitone pounded a homer.

Brock Davis singled in the seventh, Torres was safe on an error and Paul Popovich homered for three runs to kayo Claude Osteen. Williams hit reliever Jose Pena's first pitch for another homer. [The Sporting News]
