Denny McLain was able to end his personal nine-game losing streak when the Senators rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Yankees, 2-1. McLain was wrapped in a scoreless duel with Mel Stottlemyre until Roy White homered for the Yankees in the ninth.

Lenny Randle doubled with one out in the Senators' half and took third on an infield hit by Frank Howard. After Don Mincher fanned, Bernie Allen singled to tie the score and Larry Biittner followed with a single to plate the the winning run. [The Sporting News]
