Vada Pinson drew the collar against Jim Palmer in four trips, but came to bat against reliever Eddie Watt in the ninth and smashed a homer to give the Indians a 3-2 victory over the Orioles. Pinson's blow enabled Ed Farmer to receive credit for his first major league victory as reliever for Sam McDowell. Frank Robinson homered for the Orioles, who held a 2-0 lead before the Indians tied the score in the eighth on a bases-loaded double by Frank Baker. [The Sporting News]
