A misjudged line drive that went for a run-scoring double enabled the Dodgers to defeat the Padres, 2-1. In the fifth inning, Maury Wills walked, stole second and crossed the plate on a two-out single by Dick Allen to tie the score at 1-1.

Wes Parker then hit a liner to left field and the ball sailed over Leron Lee's head, allowing Allen to score. Lee had a chance to make amends in the ninth, but hit into a game-ending double play after Larry Stahl tripled and Nate Colbert was hit by a pitch. [The Sporting News]
