After blowing a 6-2 lead, the Giants came back with two runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Cardinals, 8-7. The Giants' first six runs counted in the second, two scoring on a single by Bobby Bonds and two on a double by Tito Fuentes. The Cardinals rallied to tie the score with the aid of homers by Joe Torre and Lou Brock.

The Giants then broke away in the sixth when Hal Lanier, Fuentes and Ken Henderson singled for one run. Fuentes was nailed trying to go to third on Henderson's hit, but Bonds doubled to drive in what proved to be the deciding marker. [The Sporting News]
