The ability to bunt played a big role as the Astros edged the Reds, 3-2. In the second inning, after Doug Rader tripled, Jim Wynn laid down a bunt and beat it out for a hit as Rader scored. Wynn swung away and homered in the fifth.

After the Reds tied the score, Roger Metzger bunted safely for the Astros in the eighth. Joe Morgan also bunted for a sacrifice. Alter an intentional pass to Cesar Cedeno, Bob Watson singled to drive in the deciding run. [The Sporting News]
