The seven-game winning streak of the Red Sox was stopped by Stan Bahnsen, who pitched the Yankees to a 6-0 victory. The Yankees scored the only run they needed when Horace Clarke singled and Bobby Murcer doubled in the first inning.

A single by Ron Blomberg and doubles by Thurman Munson and Danny Cater added two runs in the sixth. Munson wrapped up the scoring by hitting a homer with two men on base in the ninth inning. [The Sporting News]
