A triple by Rich McKinney in the eighth inning, breaking up a scoreless duel between Tommy John and Paul Splittorff, gave the White Sox a 1-0 victory over the Royals. Walt Williams tripled with one out in the eighth, but was caught and retired in a rundown when Mike Hershberger grounded to Cookie Rojas.
