An inside-the-park homer by Don Kessinger helped Cubs defeat the Pirates, 3-1. Kessinger walked in the first inning and scored on a single by Glenn Beckert and groundout by Billy Williams. Kessinger circled the bases in the third on a drive that got past Willie Stargell, who bounced off the left field wall and fell trying to make play.
