Fleet-footed Lee Richard scored from second base on a long sacrifice fly by Rich McKinney in the seventh inning to bring the White Sox a 2-1 victory over the Athletics. Ed Herrmann opened the inning with a single and gave way to Richard, who advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Luis Alvarado.

McKinney then batted for Tommy John and drove a fly to deep center field. Racing past third without hesitation, Richard scored when Larry Brown's relay of the throw by Angel Mangual was wide of the plate. [The Sporting News]
