Tim McCarver, who remained in the game after being retired as a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning, smashed a three-run homer in the eighth to lift the Phillies to a 7-5 victory over the Expos. Deron Johnson also was a hitting hero for the Phillies, accounting for their first three runs with a homer in the first inning. Johnson doubled in the fourth and scored on a single by Roger Freed and an error.

Then, in the eighth, Johnson doubled again, Freed walked and McCarver hit his homer, scoring behind Denny Doyle, who ran for Johnson, and Freed. Bob Bailey homered with two aboard for the Expos in the third inning. [The Sporting News]
