Three runs in the first inning with the help of two passed balls and a walk with the bases loaded enabled the Orioles to defeat the Indians, 4-1. Don Buford led off with a double, took third on the first passed ball by Chuck Hinton and scored on an infield out by Mark Belanger.

Singles by Elrod Hendricks and Merv Rettenmund paved the way for another run on the second passed ball. Steve Dunning, pitching for the Indians, then walked Brooks Robinson and Paul Blair to load the bases and hit Jerry DaVanon with a pitch to force in the Orioles' third run. [The Sporting News]
