Mickey Lolich triumphed over Denny McLain, his former teammate, for the second time this season as the Tigers defeated the Senators, 4-2. The loss was the 15th for McLain, who had one decision over the Tigers among his five wins.

Frank Howard homered with a man on base in the first inning for the Senators' runs. The Tigers tied the score in the third and gained their winning margin on a homer by Aurelio Rodriguez in the fourth and another by Jim Northrup in the fifth. [The Sporting News]
