Ted Simmons drew a leadoff walk from Fred Gladding and gave way to Luis Melendez, who raced home on a double by Joe Torre. After an intentional pass to Hague, the Astros expected Jose Cruz to bunt, but the rookie outfielder swung away and singled to drive in the winning run. [The Sporting News]
