Horace Clarke's one-out single scored Gene Michael from second base in the ninth inning to give the Yankees a 3-2 victory and a sweep of the three-game series with the Red Sox. Michael opened the ninth with a single and Lindy McDaniel sacrificed, setting the scene for the deciding blow. After the Red Sox had taken a 2-1 lead in the fifth, the Yankees evened the count in the eighth on successive singles by Roy White, Ron Blomberg and Thurman Munson. [The Sporting News]
