Aided by a homer and sacrifice fly by Johnny Callison, who drove in both Cub runs, Milt Pappas blanked the Padres, 2-0, in the opening game of a doubleheader. In the second game, Ivan Murrell and Ed Spiezio each drove in a pair of runs and Cito Gaston belted a homer as the Padres took a 7-5 decision. Pappas' shutout was the 62nd of his 15-year career. Clay Kirby was the winner of the nightcap with help from Cub castoff Bob Miller. [The Sporting News]
