The Expos, after losing the opener of a twi-night doubleheader, 7-3, beat the Cardinals for the first time this season in the nightcap, 6-4. Joe Torre batted in three runs and Ted Simmons accounted for two in the Cardinals' victory behind Steve Carlton. Stan Swanson hit his first major league homer for the Expos. The defeat was the Expos' fifth straight at the hands of the Cardinals, but Bill Stoneman rectified matters in the nightcap.
