Ross Grimsley pitched the Reds to a 3-0 victory over the Padres in a game stopped by rain in the bottom half of the sixth inning. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed.

Grimsley allowed three hits. Tom Phoebus, who was the loser, gave up four, but they all came in the first inning when the Reds scored their runs on singles by Bernie Carbo, Lee May, Tommy Helms and Pat Corrales, together with a pass to George Foster. [The Sporting News]
