Aided by a 20-mile-per-hour wind, seven homers soared out of Wrigley Field as the Cubs outslugged the Mets, 11-7. Billy Williams, Jim Hickman, Chris Cannizzaro and Ernie Banks homered for the Cubs, while the Mets had blows by Cleon Jones, Duffy Dyer and Ed Kranepool.

Banks' homer, the first delivered by any pinch-hitter for the Cubs this season, was the 511th of the veteran star's career, moving him into a tie with Mel Ott for eighth place on the all-time list. [The Sporting News]
