Posting his first shutout of the season, Bob Gibson pitched the Cardinals to an 8-0 victory over the Phillies. The Cards' production included a "triple" by Ted Sizemore with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Willie Montanez dropped Sizemore's fly in right-center and the hometown scorer gave the Cardinal batter credit for a triple. [The Sporting News]
