After exploding for six runs in the third inning, the Red Sox had a battle on their hands before defeating the Twins, 8-6. Bob Montgomery doubled and scored on a single by Ray Culp to start the Red Sox outburst. John Kennedy singled and Reggie Smith hit a three-run homer.

After Rico Petrocelli walked, George Scott also connected for the circuit. The Red Sox added what proved to be the deciding run in the sixth on a pass to Scott, single by Joe Lahoud and sacrifice fly by Montgomery. [The Sporting News]
