Catfish Hunter was knocked out in the seventh inning, but before leaving the Athletics' pitcher batted in four runs with a homer, two singles and a grounder to help himself to a 9-7 victory over the Tigers. Sal Bando belted two homers for the A's, while the Tigers had circuit clouts by Aurelio Rodriguez, Ed Brinkman, Kevin Collins and Jim Northrup.

Bando hit his first homer of the game with a man on base in the seventh to break a 4-4 tie. After three walks loaded the bases, Hunter drove in one run with a single and another tally counted on a throwing error by Dick McAuliffe. [The Sporting News]
