Bruce Kison, the Pirates' 21-year-old rookie righthander, pitched a two-hitter and posted his first major league shutout, defeating the Padres, 4-0. The Pirates gave Kison the only run he needed when Willie Stargell singled, Richie Hebner doubled and Milt May hit a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Stargell singled ahead of a homer by Hebner in the third. Not to be outdone by Hebner, Stargell homered for the last run in the fifth. [The Sporting News] |
