. . . where the 1970s live forever!

The White Sox came from behind to win the first game of a doubleheader, 6-5, in 10 innings, setting an example for the Senators, who rallied to win the second game, 5-3. The White Sox, who trailed in the opener, 3-0 and 5-2, pulled into a tie in the eighth inning. Jay Johnstone, who drove in the second run of the rally with a single, showed alert baserunning to score the tying tally. With the bases loaded, Luis Alvarado grounded to Dave Nelson, who forced Ed Herrmann at the plate. Johnstone, advancing from second, continued home and scored when catcher Dick Billings threw to first in an unsuccessful attempt to complete the double play. In the 10th, Rick Reichardt singled and Johnstone drove in the winning run with a triple. Frank Howard had four hits, including a homer, for the Senators.

In the nightcap, the Senators wiped out a 3-0 deficit and then scored the winning pair in the ninth inning on a single by Del Unser, pass to Don Mincher and double by Howard. [The Sporting News]
